FAQs Feel free to email us your questions. We might add it here for everyone. What kind of Club is the Red Knights Motorcycle Club? We are a fire based, inclusive, social organization. We respect all members of the motorcycling community, and "claim" no territory. In deference to our profession of firefighting, our motto is "Loyal to our duty" . All members agree to abide by our mission, as laid out in the original RKMC documents. They are - To strengthen the bonds between firefighters. To engage exclusively in social and charitable activities To promote a positive image of motorcyclists and further the sport of motorcycling How big, and where, are the Red Knights? Membership is currently around the 10,000 mark, with over 440 chapters in over 20 countries, from the USA, Canada, and a huge presence in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. A partial "flag list" of nations with chapters is at the bottom of this page. What does "Ontario 1" do for the community? As Red Knights, we are committed to one or more charities. The current official charities of Ontario 1 are the Toronto Firefighters Toy Drive, and Camp Bucko, the premier burn camp for kids. Their contact info is available on our Links page. We can also assist at other events around the GTA. Just ask! What does "Ontario 1" mean? Each chapter has a geographical area. Ontario 1 is the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) chapter of the Red Knights. The "1" indicates that we hold the first Ontario charter. This is not a claim on territory. We are not a cubed "MC", or any type of 1% club. Who is eligible to be a member of the Red Knights? There several types of membership. Any firefighter, current or retired, may apply for "Active" membership. "Active" status includes members of professional, volunteer and composite departments, as well as industrial firefighters. Dispatchers, fire prevention staff and other divisions are now classed as "FD Associate" (by the International). Family members may also join, as "Social" members. As well, we have "Associate" members who, while not from our profession, have been supportive enough to be part of our family. We are an inclusive club, with anti-discriminatory policies in place. Do I need a certain type of bike? As long as you have a motorcycle license and a street legal bike, (or trike!) you can join. Any brand, any style. stock or full custom. Make sure it's roadworthy when you're coming out with us. Nobody wants to be "that guy" on a ride. Having said that, we have a lot of experience in "roadside mechanical engineering". Do I have to be a Toronto firefighter to join Ontario 1? No, we welcome members from all over. Most chapters have members from multiple departments. We've had many Departments represented in Ontario 1, including Markham, Pickering, Uxbridge, GTAA (Pearson Airport), and even Chapleau Ontario! As well, members often belong to more than one chapter. See our Gallery page for an example of this. Is there any type of hazing or "prospecting"? No, if you meet the criteria above, you've already earned the right. Always remember, however, we expect our members to be good citizens, and never to bring disrespect to the profession of firefighting or the Club. No "1%" support patches, pins or clothing may be worn by any Red Knight. This is for the good of all. The 1% clubs know this. We respect them, they respect us. What is the structure of Ontario 1? Ontario 1 is incorporated with the Province of Ontario. We are governed by a Constitution and Bylaws, adopted by our members, as well as the International Bylaws of the RKMC. Ontario 1 has an elected Executive, with a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Road Captain. How do I get more information? Please see our Contact page
